Fall color in Zion National Park can be hit or miss depending on the moisture for the year, fall temperatures, early frost or storms. Fortunately 2026 brought copious amounts of moisture in summer and early autumn while Zion canyon remained warm enough to avoid a frost which can sometimes kill the autumn leaves. I explored the upper canyon between Big Bend and The Temple of Sinawava and marveled at the spectacular splashes of scarlet, gold and bright green. This painting was painted en plein air for the Zion Art Invitational with sales to help raise funds for Zion National Park.
